My 1st blouse (Pussy Bow blouse)

Now that I think about it, I’ve sewn Tshirts, shirts, cardigans/sweaters… but I’ve never sewn blouses! Though I have a few patterns and I do love blouses with ties and especially blouses with bishop sleeves (who knows where it comes from ^^’). But maybe I wasn’t sure to be confortable enough to wear one before.

I discovered the English pattern brand Sew over it via the Love to sew podcast (I’ll have to write a blog post about my favorite podcasts one day) and I loved their vintage inspired patterns so much ♥ As you may know, I’m really not a PDF patterns fans so when I went to London for a couple of weeks last April I went to their Islington shop (on North London) and their Clapham one (which was on South London but has closed since then unfortunatly) and I bought this paper pattern.

I had noticed the Pussy bow blouse for quite some time, And writh ties and slightly bishop sleeves this was the perfect pattern for my first blouse experience. (I also wanted to buy Sew over it creator Lisa Comfort’s 2nd magazine issue but they were out when I was in London…).

The pattern is printed on tissue paper so I’ve traced the 2nd view on sturdier paper grading from a size 12 to 14 (UK) from the bust to the waist.
As I choose a remnant of a crepe of some sort (bought at La Textilerie) which was a bit stretchy plus the ease of this pattern I didn’t prepare a toile this time.

And as it was my first time working with a flowing fabric since I bought a rotary cutter I could test it. Once the fabric is folded correctly and the pattern pieces placed on it it’s super easy! The only thing I need to keep in mind next time is not to mark notches with it. Some were longer than the seam allowance ^^’

Instructions and diagrams are rather clear and easy to follow, I just had trouble with sewing the ties to the center front. As the front ends in a point I didn’t understand how I was supposed to finish the seam nicely without a facing… So I did what I could but as a result the ties don’t lay flat on my bust. But with some kind of tie knot it doesn’t show that much!

I’m really proud of my very 1st blouse!!! And I can’t wait to sew more, it can be quite elegant even with jeans ^^’
